I really appreciate it :) I guess I don't look at you or anyone else as "fans" just great people that I cross paths with along this journey. Always nice to meet new people that share the same passion and I really do love to help people. It's not about money and I'm not a celebrity by any means, just a regular "gal" that happens to love life! And honestly I prefer it that way... :)

Re: What is “success”?

LOL! In all honesty , I thought the oldest you could possibly be was 30, heck , at first I thought you were about 27.
Doug :)

Re: What is “success”?

Patty.
You indeed are a success ! You say you are not making alot of money in the sport, but that is not the only way success is measured. Alot of people in sports today do not care at all about their fans. Not only do you care , you answer your fans E mails .
I feel like I have known your for years and you have a unique ablilty to connect with your fans. You do it the right way , you have worked hard to get the physique you have and you are willing to share tips on how you got there so others can learn from you. Money success will come your way , but you are already a successful person.
.. I hear ya! I was on vacation last week with that devil on one shoulder and the angel on the other. I did manage to eat pretty clean but I also had some cocktails. :) The sodium is an issue for me too and flying makes it worse but just think...when you get home it will all go back to normal. Enjoy your trip!

xo!
~Patty

Re: Are you a fan of “cheat meals”?

Hey Jeannette! I have to admit that lately (because I seem to be always prepping for a contest) I’ve been pretty lame in the creativity department when it comes to cooking. I do get hungry but honestly I’m never really starving because I eat every 2 ½ - 3 ½ hours. Sometimes if I don’t feel really full after I eat just knowing that another meal is right around the corner helps a lot.

One thing about my diet is that I consider it a “meal” every time I eat. The word “snack” doesn’t really mean anything different to me than the word “meal”. In other words I could be eating a piece of chicken on a corn torilla mid-morning or egg whites and turkey at bedtime. I eat lots of veggies that keep me full too. I know that doesn’t sound exciting but it’s my reality and I oddly enough I actually like it. Some other more typical “snack ideas” if you want sweet could be rice cakes with peanut butter and honey (or even banana on them) or I like to mix Greek yogurt (low fat) with a scoop of protein powder and some peanut butter. I sometimes take that mix and spread it on graham crackers and freeze it to make little “ice cream sandwiches”. There are tons of ideas and I started making video recipes which eventually I plant to post here.

One more thing, if you’re starving in between meals (I assume that’s why you asked) take a look at possible reasons why and make sure you’re eating properly to stabilize your blood sugar. A couple of things to check that might help:

1. Are you eating within one hour of waking up in the morning? And before your workouts?
2. Are your meals balanced with the correct amount of protein, carbs and fat? Skipping any of those or throwing the ratios off will cause cravings and hunger.
3. Are your meals high quality? This is so important to avoid hunger because un-processed foods take longer to digest keeping you satisfied longer.
4. Are you getting enough sleep?
5. Are you hydrated enough?
6. Are you eating enough calories at each meal? (I know you workout hard so you need to fuel up!)

Also this is a perfect example of why I like to keep a food journal. You can start to pinpoint what’s going on. Once you identify where the "off" is you can fix it.

Hope this helps and I’m sorry for rambling on and on as usual.

xo!
~Patty

Re: Are you a fan of “cheat meals”?

Can you recommend some new healthy snacks? I need a little more variety. The sludge is still great! I can't do it either, I end up feeling so very yucky! Currently I am here in Puerto Varrarta and the food choices are really great-not as tight control as at home but great clean choices none-the-less. I am in contest prep mode, 7 weeks out so really important to eat clean. One of the problems I am having down here is even though I am eating clean and making good choices (well except for the strawberry daquiris that may have snuck in, I won't lie) the sodium content is killing me. I am so not use to eating all of the sodium my feet feel like Flinstone feet! I am gonna have some making up to do this week. But as far as cheat meals??? Me too, I can't do it! xo

Re: May 10th, 2010

Couldn't agree more!!!

Re: Patty’s Favorite Things

Thanks for hooking me up with PB2---IT RULES!
....Almost as much as the VERSA GRIPS :)

Re: Give yourself a chance…Patience and Consistency

Thanks Mandy and Melissa! But I am DETERMINED now that I will do it!

Oh, one funny thing I wanted to share with you... my husband has a Triple Chocolate Power Crunch Bar everyday with his lunch... My daughters like them too... and in our house they are not known as power Crunch bars... They are known only as "Patty Bars"... LOL

Re: Self Control April 20, 2010

Thanks Kim! I had a lot of fun doing that shoot! The whole eating saga really is crazy but it's so SO good to know that other girls feel exactly the same and that it's somewhat normal. You look great though Kim. I know that it doesn't help to hear people say that when you know how you feel and what you want to look like, but it really is true. We are our own worst critics. I wonder if male competitors feel like this? Probably not...lucky men!!! LOL! Anyway, it's nice to know that you like hearing me talk about it all because I like getting it off my mind and this is just another outlet for me. Sure beats a therapist huh? Ha! I'm just kidding! Real quick, just to clear up one other thing...when I say "fat" I mean "fat for a competitor" which is a whole different story. I didn't want anyone to misunderstand me on that.

Take care, Kim and thanks for the comment :)

Re: Self Control April 20, 2010

Love the cowgirl pic! So fun!!! I undestand what you are saying about the control and eating... especially right after the competition... of course I was only in one, but i get it...
Also, before training for my first competition I really did not understand how some competitors could eat so much off season and "let themselves go"... I am now eating my words... since i "let myself go" and I agree with you that competitors do need to deal with a lot of food issues... the extreme diet somewhat messes with your head... some deal with putting on lots of weight afterwards and others deal with beating themselves up for "eating poorly" when they aren't actually eating poorly at all... it's all so crazy... I enjoy hearing you "talk" about it all... I'm doing well this week with getting back on track... it's the weekends that usually kill me so I have to be EXTRA careful over the next few weekends or I'll never make any progress... have a great day!!!

Re: Self Control April 20, 2010

I am sure you have heard this by all but you are very inspirational to all.
